VABA-GA 2017 SCHOLARSHIPS

The Vietnamese American Bar Association of Georgia is proud to continue its second annual tradition of awarding scholarships to two deserving students and one nonprofit organization.  Winners of the 2017 VABA-GA scholarships will be honored at our signature gala on August 19, 2017.

2017 VABA-GA Student Scholarships

Our student scholarships were established to reduce financial burdens and increase the number of Vietnamese-American students attending Georgia law schools and colleges.  We will award a $5,000 scholarship to one prospective or current Vietnamese law student and a $1,000 scholarship to one prospective or current Vietnamese college or graduate school student.  In helping students along their educational journey, we hope to encourage young Vietnamese Americans to take pride in their identities and give back to their underrepresented communities.

Selection Criteria:

Scholarship recipients are selected based on exceptional academic ability and achievement, financial need, service to others, and leadership.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

Applicant must:

- Be a permanent resident or citizen of the United States

- Be of Vietnamese descent (a descendant of at least one Vietnamese grandparent)

- Be either a Georgia resident who will be enrolled in college or law school in fall 2018 or a nonresident who will be enrolled in a college or law school in Georgia in fall 2018

The deadline to apply is July 15, 2017.  All applications must be submitted electronically to vabageorgia@gmail.com by 11:59 PM EST on July 15, 2017.  Applications can be accessed and downloaded here

2017 VABA-GA Nonprofit Grant

Our nonprofit grant was established to invest in organizations that demonstrate a commitment to creating value and uplifting the Vietnamese-American and other AAPI communities.  Although the Vietnamese-American community faces lower educational attainment compared to nation-wide averages, limited English proficiencies, and challenges in access to affordable healthcare, it is often overlooked and members fall through the gaps because of the perpetuation of the model minority myth.

Selection Criteria:

We look for motivated, knowledgeable, and passionate organizations who think holistically about economic, social, and civic issues that face the Vietnamese-American community.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

Applicant must:

- Be registered with the Georgia Secretary of State as a nonprofit organization

- Be a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) or Section 501(c)(6) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service Code.

The deadline to apply is July 15, 2017. All applications must be submitted electronically to vabageorgia@gmail.com by 11:59 PM EST on July 15, 2017.  The nonprofit grant application can be accessed and downloaded here.
